Ahhhh, Ramadan... The month of abstinence, temporary starvation and the swalling of two indigestion pills...
However we Bengli's find this pretty hard... Why?! We Bengali's love three things in life. Our family and children (if Micheal Jackson was Bengali he'll like other people's children), our Bollywood AND our food. More like JUST food (Exhibit A: Tazi) and without these three things we find ourselves depressed and in the need for prozac.
And now, the eating frenzy is to start. You'll see every Muslim stuffing their faces tommorow, and if you're lucky then you're not in the same restaurant as them...
Most of my generation (well this is for certain in Bangladesh) are just labelled Muslims. We don't do much for charity, don't pray five times a day and for goodness sake half of us smoke a pack a day. What are we then? Basically, Muslims by birth, by passport and in the end Muslims with a big fat label on our heads. Obviously not Muslims in faith, action and words...
There was this lady who'd come to my uncles house in Bangladesh who would just recite the Quran and we like idiots just followed... She didn't know what the hell she was say, didn't understand a syllable she spat... We were just wasting our time... She didn't teach us anything, we just followed what she didn't understand! She basically managed to pass on absolutely NOTHING to us...
With a father who prays five times a day (well he recently just gave up on me) and makes a HUGE deal for his two children to pray with him you'll end up not believing too... Once again, he never told us WHY we were doing what we were doing and what benefits it'll give us. My father was just as productive as the lady I was talking about earlier...
Now, I've come to a conclusion. Man created the three lettered word (or any other synonym) just cause. This way they could teach their children that if you're good in life, you'll get somewhere like Heaven. Or if you do good then in your next life you'll be treated well... If you're bad you're punished etc...
Don't hate me!!
